We believe that through light and colour our world can be a more joyful place. If there’s a windows filled with dull obscured glass, then we are here to put things right. It is our endeavour to help bring some of that joy into your part of this world though creating stunning work for you. While doing this we also believe that we should be aware of our impact on the earth and at all times take care to reduce wastage through recycling and reducing our carbon footprint. To do this we endeavour to always act in the ways listed below.

TRANSPORT

David walks to work whenever possible, or otherwise uses Public Transport. Paul and David only use their cars when they are required to carry glass, other materials or finished windows to and from the studios. We do not run a separate van. Steve has his studio at home, but when he does he travel for business its by public transport or car.

STAINED GLASS

There is always scrap glass and it is has an intrinsic beauty to it. To give that beauty another life all our scrap glass goes to Resilica in Newhaven, East Sussex. They use it in fabulous applications for bars and restaurants, kitchens, bathrooms, furniture, flooring, shop fittings, public seating and architectural features.

PAPER

The paper we use for printing designs and maps at the Brighton studio gets recycled by Paper Round. All paper received with a blank reverse is used for printing on, before being recycled.

PACKAGING

Cardboard and plastic-based packaging that our glass and other materials arrive in at the Brighton studio are reused by a locally based internet shopping business, Everydaythings.co.uk. They are also in New England House, which means we can transport this to them by foot.

LEAD

Scrap lead from both restorations and commissions at the Brighton studio is recycled by Geo E Richardson and Sons. They are based 100m along the road from our studio and we take the lead to them once a year by car. The Midlands studio uses Taroni’s of Birmingham and like the Brighton studio, scrap is taken there just once a year.

CLEAR GLASS

All glass used for temporary glazing when windows are removed for restoration is reused in further restoration jobs. New is only bought when we do not already have large enough pieces in stock to fill the required frames. Eventually it is sent to Resilicia.

WOOD

Wood used for transporting windows is either offered to the Wood recycling Project, or reused in the same way as the glass for temporary glazing. Eventually it is passed on to be chopped down and used as fire wood.

PLASTICS

Recyclable plastics (not that we get much in plastic) gets recycled by Paper Round.

REDUCING OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT

Simply Stained Glass is signed up to Brighton & Hove’s 10:10 scheme.
