WHO'S BEHIND IT ALL

Meet the person who makes it happen.

Simply Stained is a small studio with a belief in making the very best possible from the wealth of fabulous material at hand.

THE CRAFTSMAN

David Lilly comes from a long line of artists, craftsmen and engineers.  His families' achievements have been as diverse as creating the sewage works for Ghana, exhibiting paintings at the Royal Academy in London and illustrating the original Winnie the Pooh books.  In fact, David's own career started in Hotel Management, then through the Music Industry and Wine Trade to end up in Stained Glass in the autumn of 2001.

David prefers to design and create three dimensional projects such as lighting and loves to combine new with old. Many of his lamps are based on bases from the 1960s and 1970s.

He trained in the art of stained glass in Brighton in 2001. The Simply Stained studio opened in February 2002.  The first studio was in an 18th century Mews building, with it's old-world 'charm' and in 2007, as business has got somewhat bigger, the studio has moved to more modern premises in central Brighton.
