STAINED GLASS COURSES & WORKSHOPS

BEGINNERS WORKSHOP

Whether you are based in or near to Brighton, London or the Home Counties, we are easy to get to by road or rail. The workshop is held at the Simply Stained studio in central Brighton & Hove, only 10 minutes walk from Brighton station.

This is ideal for anyone who has no knowledge or skill of stained glass but who wants to try their hand.

ITINERARY

The day starts at 10.00am with a brief chat and look through some glass samples followed by a demonstration on how to cut glass. Students are then given a glasscutter and scrap glass to practice with.

Once students are accurately cutting glass, following the basic shapes, they are given a range of designs to choose from for their project.  At this time the ease of each design will be discussed along with the choice of glass from the many different ones available.

Students will then have the rest of the morning to cut the glass for their project. As the day progresses we tend to stop around 1.30pm for lunch. There are cafés and bars that serve good food within a few minutes walk of the studio, or students can if they wish, bring a packed lunch – the seafront is only 20 minutes from the studio.

After lunch we demonstrate how to assemble the cut glass and students then put their project together with lead cames, followed by a dem' on soldering the panels together at the joints. The day normally concludes between 4.30pm and 5.30pm, but extends through to when students have finished their project - and you get to go home with what you made!

The cost for the day is £97.00 and includes use of tools and all the materials needed to complete your panel. There are a maximum of eight places on each course and they usually run one Saturday every month except for February and August. Book early to avoid disappointment via the Contact Page, or, if you prefer, start by calling David on 07796-141180 to find out about suitability and available places. If you are a group of between six and eight we can run a beginners course especially for you, call David to discuss.

WEEKDAY WORKSHOPS

Ten individual days where you can work on your own project under expert supervision.

These workshops are for those who wish to develop their leaded light skills on a project of their own, or learn the Copper foil or glass appliqué methods of construction.  You will get individual supervision as these workshops are for one student at a time. Dates to suit both the student and studio. These days cannot be taken consecutively, but once a week, but do not have to be taken to a fixed calendar.  Days not used at the end of the initial project can be saved up and used at any time within one calendar year from the first day.

The cost is £490 for the 10 days.  As with the weekend courses the use of tools is included, but not glass or other materials.  Please email david@simply-stained.co.uk or call David on 07796 141180 to discuss.

"What a fabulous day we had, from the very beginning to the very end. The day started with coffee, biscuits & conversation before getting down to the actual order of the day. After a quick health and safety brief we were off and cutting shapes out of pieces of glass. Some of us more successfully than others, although we were all made to feel like we were doing great thanks to the gentle enthusiasm of our host David. Within no time we were choosing designs and selecting which glass to use for our very own creation.

The whole process of choosing and cutting glass was great and we were actively encouraged to be as creative as we could be with colours and glass types. Its an amazing feeling to walk away at the end of the day with something that you have created yourself. A wonderful souvenir of a wonderful day. We will most definitely be booking to go again"

"Just a quickie to say thanks very much  for your cracking tuition & that I think I can say without fear of contradiction, especially, from my little brother Ben, that we had a most splendid day at your stained glass class! You may hear from us again. Many Thanks."

"Just dropping you a quick email to say thank you for a most enjoyable day on Saturday.
We both found the course informative and your instruction extremely easy to follow, both our husbands were impressed with our work and thought that we have achieved something decorative. Once again thank you for your time and patience"

"Just a quick note to say a big thank you for a wonderful day on Saturday. I really enjoyed the course and thought your teaching was great. There was a real sense of achievement completing a project over the course of the day and the pleasant and relaxed atmosphere helped to make it really special. I’ve been showing off the window all weekend and everyone’s been impressed!"

Darren Harvey

Just wanted to thank you for your beginners' course yesterday. Aidan and I really enjoyed it and have proudly hung our glass in the windows of our flat. We all thought that you were a very good, calm and patient teacher!
